PURSUIT – AGGRAVATED ASSAULT UPON A PEACE OFFICER – JEREMIAH JAMES CORTEZ – I.C.E. ARREST
NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Jeremiah James Cortez, 44, of 19480 Simon Drive, Vacherie, LA, on multiple felony charges arising from an incident on August 4, 2023.
A uniformed patrol deputy assigned to the I.C.E detail observed a U-Haul truck matching the description of a vehicle wanted in connection to several burglaries in Ascension Parish. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle which was southbound on LA 1. The driver failed to stop and engaged the deputy in a pursuit situation. The suspect continued into Lafourche parish where he attempted to ram an Assumption Sheriff’s patrol car. The suspect continued into Chack Bay and eventually crashed into farm equipment.
Jeremiah James Cortez was taken into custody and booked into the St. John Parish Correctional Facility on local charges there.
Jeremiah James Cortez was transferred to the custody of Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office on December 15, 2023 and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Aggravated Assault Upon a Peace Officer
*Unauthorized Use of a Moveable
*Aggravated Flight from an Officer
*Driving Under a Suspended Driver’s License
*Improper Display of Temporary Registration and License Plate
*License Plate Light Required
*Resisting an Officer
Jeremiah James Cortez remains incarcerated with bond set at $350,000.
