TRAFFIC STOP – CONVICTED FELON IN POSSESSION OF A FIREARM

AMELIA – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Ben Anthony Joseph, 37, of 203 North 10th Street, Thibodaux, LA, on felony firearms charges following a traffic stop early Sunday on U.S. 90 in Amelia, LA.
A uniformed patrol deputy observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and initiated a stop of the vehicle. Upon coming into contact with the driver, now identified as Ben Anthony Joseph, the deputy obtained identification, conducted a criminal records check and immediately confirmed that Ben Anthony Joseph was a convicted felon.
The deputy also interviewed two passengers in the vehicle.
Upon conducting a search of the violator vehicle, the deputy observed a large caliber handgun in the drivers compartment of the vehicle. That firearm was determined to have been under the possession and control of Ben Anthony Joseph. The suspect was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Driving Under Suspension
*Failure to Drive on Right Side of Road
*Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
Ben Anthony Joseph was incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
