POSSESSION OF A FIREARM BY A CONVICTED FELON

BRUSLY ST. MARTIN – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Deletrick J. Boyd, 30, of 208 Barcelona Drive, Donaldsonville, LA, following a traffic stop in the vicinity of LA 1000 and LA 1001 Saturday evening.
A uniformed patrol deputy observed a westbound vehicle on LA 1000 near LA 1001 and initiated a top of that vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver and initiated an officer / violator interview. The deputy then made contact with the passenger, now identified as Deletrick J. Boyd. An officer / violator interview was conducted of Deletrick J. Boyd.
At some point following the interview, it became known that a firearm was situated in the glove box of the vehicle.
The investigating deputy conducted a criminal records inquiry and determined that Deletrick J. Boyd was convicted of a felony in 2013 and therefore could not be in possession or constructive possession of any firearm. The seized firearm, a 9mm handgun, was retrieved from the glovebox within the passenger capsule of the vehicle within constructive possession of Mr. Boyd.
Deletrick J. Boyd was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on a charge of:
*Illegal Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Deletrick J. Boyd remains incarcerated with bond set at $75,000.
