TRAFFIC INCIDENT – DRUG LAW VIOLATIONS

AMELIA – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Ryan Dale Smith, 38, of 819 Swift Road, Morse, LA, on felony drug charges arising from a traffic incident on U.S. 90 near Amelia on Saturday morning.

A uniformed patrol deputy observed an eastbound vehicle driving on the roadway, nearly causing an accident. The deputy initiated a stop of the vehicle and made contact with the driver, now identified as Ryan Dale Smith. The deputy interviewed Smith and at the conclusion of that interview believed that additional investigation was warranted.

The deputy requested and was granted consent to search the vehicle.

During the subsequent search, a quantity of Xanax (Alprazolam) was seized.

Ryan Dale Smith was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:

*Possession of Xanax (Alprazolam)
*Careless Operation of a Motor Vehicle

Ryan Dale Smith was incarcerated and released on a $12,500 bond.
