TRAFFIC INCIDENT – FIREARMS VIOLATION

NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Cody Wayne Champion, of 508 Saadi Street, Houma LA, on felony gun law violations arising from a complaint on Saturday afternoon near Napoleonville in reference to a reckless driver.
A uniformed patrol deputy was dispatched to the area of LA 308 and Cosa Natural Road near Belle Rose. The vehicle in question was located in the 4800 block of LA 308 and the deputy observed the vehicle to be weaving in the roadway. The vehicle eventually stopped, and the deputy made contact with the driver, now identified as Cody Wayne Champion. The driver was unable to produce a valid driver’s license. During the officer / violator interview, the deputy determined that Cody Wayne Champion was a convicted felon and therefore prohibited from possessing a firearm. The violator acknowledged the presence of a firearm in the vehicle. The investigating deputy located and recovered the firearm.
Cody Wayne Champion was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
*Driving on Roadway Laned for Traffic
Cody Wayne Champion remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
