TRAFFIC STOP – DRUG, GUN LAW VIOLATIONS

BAYOU L’OURSE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Darnell Ricardo Thompson, Sr., 39, of 1807 Church Street, Jeanerette, LA on felony firearms charges following a traffic stop near Bayou L’Ourse on Saturday morning.

A deputy on assignment observed an eastbound vehicle on LA 662 commit a traffic violation and initiated a violator stop.

Upon making contact with the driver, now identified as Darnell Ricardo Thompson, Sr., the deputy noted behavior consistent with illegal activity.

The suspect acknowledged that there was marijuana inside of the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, the deputy did recover marijuana as well as a large caliber handgun.

A criminal records check concluded that Darnell Ricardo Thompson, Sr. was a convicted felon. Thompson was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Facility on charges of:

*Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
*Possession of Marijuana – Second Offense
*Speeding

Thompson remains incarcerated in lieu of $30,000 bond.
