TRAFFIC STOP – DRUG LAW VIOLATIONS – CHARLES E. JONES, JR.
NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Charles Edward Jones, Jr., 51, of 18015 Planchet Road, Greenwell Springs, LA, on multiple felony charges arising from a traffic stop early Thursday morning.
A uniformed patrol deputy observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and initiated a stop of the vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver, now identified as Charles E. Jones, Jr.
The driver immediately became combative and had to be subdued. He was eventually taken into custody. Deputies observed the suspect toss a bag under the vehicle. Deputies recovered that item and it contained heroin.
A K-9 unit was summoned to the scene and conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle in question. The K-9 alerted positive for the presence of controlled dangerous substances. The vehicle was searched, and additional evidence was seized.
Charles E. Jones, Jr. was transported to the Assumption Parish Detention Center to be booked on charges related to this incident. At some point during the booking process, Charles E. Jones, Jr. produced a bag from his person. Jones attempted to destroy the package. However, corrections officers were able to intercept the package which contained numerous rocks of crack cocaine.
As a result of this investigation, Charles E. Jones, Jr. was booked on charges of:
*Possession with Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine
*Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin
*Taking Contraband to / from a Penal Institution
*Obstruction of Justice
*Resisting an Officer
*Violation of Stop Sign
*Turning Movements and Required Signals
*Possession of Alcoholic Beverages in Motor Vehicles
Charles E. Jones, Jr. remains incarcerated with bond set at $406,000.
