TRAFFIC STOP – DRUG LAW VIOLATIONS

BELLE ROSE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Matherne J. Johnson, Jr., 65, of 1351 McGinnes Street, Donaldsonville, LA, on multiple felony drug charges arising from a traffic stop on LA 308 near Paincourtville, LA on Sunday evening.
A uniformed patrol deputy observed a southbound vehicle on LA 308 with an equipment violation and initiated a stop of the vehicle. The vehicle continued on for an extended distance before stopping. The deputy made contact with the driver, now identified as Matherne J. Johnson, Jr. The deputy determined that Matherne J. Johnson, Jr. was driving on a suspended drivers license. The deputy noted marijuana on the clothing of the driver.
After interviewing the driver, the deputy requested and was granted consent to search the suspect vehicle. During the search process, a quantity of suspected crack cocaine was seized from the vehicle.
Matherne J. Johnson, Jr. was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance to wit: Crack Cocaine
*Possession of Marijuana – Second Offense
*Driver Under a Suspended Driver’s License
*License Plate Required
*Flight from an Officer
Matherne J. Johnson, Jr. remains incarcerated with bond set at $22,500.
