TRAFFIC STOP – GUN LAW VIOLATION

BAYOU L’OURSE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Javonne Wanya Amacker, 28, of 124 Joaquin Drive, Houma, LA on felony gun law violations arising from a Tuesday afternoon traffic stop near Bayou L’Ourse.
A uniformed patrol deputy observed a westbound vehicle on Highway 90 with an equipment violation and initiated a stop of that vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver, now identified as Javonne Wanya Amacker and engaged the violator in an interview.
At some point, the deputy summoned a K-9 to the scene of the stop. The K-9 conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle which led to Amacker acknowledging the presence of a large caliber handgun in the vehicle. The firearm was seized.
Deputies determined that Javonne Wanya Amacker was a prior convicted felon.
Javonne Wanya Amacker was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
*Illegal Window Tint
Javonne Wanya Amacker remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
