TRAFFIC STOP – DRUG / GUN LAW VIOLATIONS

PIERRE PART – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Tremaine Joseph Francois, 29, of 505 Barrow Street, Morgan City, La., on felony drug and gun law violations following a traffic stop in Pierre Part late Thursday.
A uniformed K-9 unit observed a vehicle on LA 70 commit a traffic violation and initiated a stop of the violator.
The deputy made contact with the driver, now identified as Tremaine Joseph Francois and immediately noted a strong odor of suspected marijuana emitting from the vehicle.
After interviewing the driver, an open-air sniff was conducted on the suspect vehicle which resulted in a positive alert for suspected illegal narcotics.
A search of the suspect yielded marijuana, a handgun and assorted paraphernalia.
Tremaine Joseph Francois was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Facility on charges of:
*Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute
*Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
*Illegal Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of Controlled Dangerous Substances
*Driving on Roadway Laned for Traffic
*Expired Vehicle Registration
*Speeding
Tremaine Joseph Francois remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
