HALLOWEEN – TRICK OR TREAT

HALLOWEEN – TRICK OR TREAT

NAPOLEONVILLE – The Assumption Parish Police Jury has set Tuesday, October 31, as Trick or Treat and the festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m.

Sheriff Falcon offers a few helpful tips so all can enjoy a safe Halloween experience:

* Parents and children should avoid multicolored candies that are not in original packaging.

* Be cautious of multicolored candies. These candies have been identified as a popular distribution method for the deadly drug fentanyl.

* Inspect all candy before allowing children to eat.

* Only allow children to collect commercially packaged candy. Avoid any packages that are open or repackaged.

* DO NOT VISIT HOMES OF KNOWN SEX OFFENDERS. IF PORCH OR OUTSIDE LIGHTING IS ON AT A SEX OFFENDERS’S RESIDENCE, REPORT IMMEDIATELY TO THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE AT 985-369-2912 OR 911.

* Make sure all manufactured costumes fit properly to avoid tripping and to allow full range of motion.

* Choose costumes that are well illuminated, bright and glow in the dark.

* Consider using face paint instead of large bulky face masks that could alter vision.

* Choose non-flammable fabrics for costumes.

* Have the children well lit, consider glow sticks, lights attached to costumes and reflective tape.

* Children or a guardian should be equipped with a flashlight.

* Children should be accompanied by adults.

* Travel in groups instead of alone.

* Trick or Treat at well lit locations and know the residents.

* Never allow a child to enter a stranger’s home.

* Follow the rules of the road if you are driving children. Drive slow, be alert for walking Trick or Treaters.

* If children are walking, they should be off of the roadway and always accompanied by adults.

* Drivers should use extra caution when unloading and re-loading kids. Make sure they are secured and seated while your vehicle is in motion.

Sheriff Falcon wishes everyone a safe and joyous Halloween experience!!!
