TRAFFIC INCIDENT – GUN LAW VIOLATION

LABADIEVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Dustin M. Lovell, 26, of 119 Sandy Lane, Franklin, LA, on felony gun law violations arising from a traffic stop near Labadieville on Saturday evening.
A uniformed patrol deputy observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation on LA 398 west of Labadieville and initiated a stop of that vehicle. The deputy made contact with the driver who provided a fictitious identification card. The deputy was familiar with the suspect and knew his proper identity to be Dustin M. Lovell. The deputy was aware that a warrant for Failure to Appear in Court in Assumption Parish existed for the arrest of Dustin M. Lovell. The deputy immediately arrested Lovell. The deputy requested and was granted consent to search the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle, deputies located a handgun. Dustin M. Lovell is a prior convicted felon for the crime of simple robbery and therefore could not legally possess a firearm.
Dustin M. Lovell was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:
*Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
*Resisting an Officer
*Speeding 85 / 55
*Failure to Appear in Court in Assumption Parish on Charges of:
-Possession of a Schedule III Controlled Dangerous Substance
Dustin M. Lovell remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
